Most yoga mats are designed for exercise.
Aura mat is different.
It was developed using the Ayurvedic science of Ayurvastra, a traditional method of infusing textiles with medicinal herbs that interact with the body during daily practice.
Each mat is handwoven using organic cotton and therapeutic plant formulations designed to support energetic balance during:
Yoga
Meditation
Breathwork
Daily ritual
Rather than separating you from the earth with synthetic materials, Ayurvedic Practice Technology allows your body to interact with natural fibers, herbs, and geometry designed for conscious living.

The Story Behind Ayurvedic Practice Technology
Woven in Wisdom explores the rediscovery of Ayurvastra and the living artisans preserving this sacred textile tradition.
How Aura Mat Was Rediscovered
aura mat™ did not begin as a product. It began as a personal search for healing.
Years ago, founder Yogi Gabriel faced a serious health crisis that forced him to step away from the corporate world and reevaluate everything about how the body heals and how consciousness evolves. During that period he became deeply immersed in yoga, meditation, and the ancient science of Ayurveda.
While studying traditional practices, he encountered references to a little known textile tradition called Ayurvastra.
Ayurvastra is the ancient practice of infusing natural fibers with medicinal herbs through a decoction process known as kashayam. These herbal textiles were traditionally used in India to support healing, meditation, and spiritual practice.
The idea was simple but powerful.
When the body comes into contact with herbalized natural fibers, the skin interacts with plant compounds during rest, meditation, or daily practice.
Yet despite thousands of years of Ayurvedic knowledge, these sacred textiles had almost disappeared from modern yoga culture.
Most yoga mats today are made from synthetic materials like PVC, rubber, and foam. These materials were designed for exercise, not for meditation or energetic awareness.
Curious about this lost tradition, Gabriel traveled to India to learn directly from Ayurvedic practitioners and textile artisans who still preserved the knowledge of Ayurvastra weaving.
What he discovered was remarkable.
Traditional weavers were still producing herbal textiles using organic cotton and carefully prepared herbal dye baths made from plants like neem, turmeric, tulsi, and other medicinal botanicals. The fabrics were breathable, grounding, and deeply connected to the Ayurvedic understanding of the human body.
Working with these artisans and Ayurvedic teachers, Gabriel helped bring awareness to these traditional textiles through what eventually became aura mat™.
Each mat is handwoven using organic cotton and infused with Ayurvedic herbs through traditional dyeing methods. The mats are also designed with subtle geometric weaving patterns that help guide posture and alignment during practice.
Rather than separating practitioners from the earth with synthetic materials, aura mat™ reconnects the body with natural fibers, herbal medicine, and the ancient philosophy of Ayurveda.
Today aura mat™ represents the meeting point between ancient textile wisdom and modern yoga practice.
It is not simply a yoga mat.
It is Ayurvedic Practice Technology designed to support meditation, breathwork, and conscious living.
The Story Behind aura mat™
Before watching the documentary, I want to personally share how aura mat™ was rediscovered.
In this short video, I explain my journey through illness, the discovery of Ayurvedic textiles known as Ayurvastra, and how that path led to the creation of aura mat™.
This is the same story I often share when people first encounter these mats at yoga festivals and events.
The Tradition Behind aura mat™
The rediscovery of Ayurvastra and the artisans who preserve this sacred textile tradition are documented in the film Woven in Wisdom.
This documentary explores the history of Ayurvedic textiles, the weavers who continue this tradition, and the journey that led to the creation of aura mat™.
Choose the Practice Technology That Aligns With Your Dosha
Ayurveda teaches that each person has a unique constitution known as their Dosha.
Aura mat practice technology is designed in three energetic variations:
Vata, Pitta & Kapha
Each formulation uses specific herbs, weave structures, and geometry to support energetic balance.
Practice That Supports More Than Your Body
We reallocate 8% of typical retailer profits toward real social impact.
Toy Soldier Foundation – 33.3% of available resources allocated to this project. Supporting children with complex PTSD through somatic and arts-based trauma therapy. This isn’t charity, it’s justice work.
Save the River Project – 33.3% of available resources allocated to this project. Preserving Ayurvedic dyeing water systems by restoring the rivers that support sacred craft villages. One river at a time.
Weaver Wage Enhancement – 33.3% of available resources allocated to this project. We pay above-market wages and fund apprenticeship programs so sacred textile lineages don’t die with the elders.
Why This Practice Technology Was Rediscovered
This began as healing. Yogi Gabriel, chronically ill and bedridden had a spontaneous kundalini awakening. What followed was a re-education in how energy works and how sacred textiles affects our AURA.
Eventually Yogi Gabriel discovered Ayurvastra, authentic Ayurveda sacred yoga mats made from herbs and geometry. He doesn’t claim to have invented these. He made a sacred vow to protect them.
